2026 and 2025 VA payment dates

How these dates are determined: VA does not publish an official payment-dates calendar page; these dates are derived from VA's standard payment rule (benefits paid on the first business day of the following month, adjusted for weekends and federal holidays) — verify with VA or your bank.

How VA disability pay is calculated

Your monthly VA disability payment depends on two things: your combined disability rating (from 10% to 100%, in 10-point steps) and your dependents. Ratings below 30% are paid at a flat rate. At 30% and above, VA adds a fixed amount for a spouse, each child, and each dependent parent, which is why the tables above grow a column of situations. Rates rise every December 1 with the annual COLA.

If your rating changed partway through a period, or your claim took months to decide, you may also be owed retroactive pay back to your effective date. You can estimate that with our VA back pay calculator, which applies each rate year's table month by month.

The 2026 COLA increase

VA disability compensation is adjusted once a year by a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) that matches the Social Security Administration's COLA. For 2026 the increase is 2.8% (matches SSA COLA). The new rates take effect on December 1, 2025, and the first payment reflecting them is the one issued at the start of January 2026.

Because the adjustment lands every December 1, a back-pay period that spans more than one rate year is paid at more than one monthly rate — earlier months at the older rate, later months at the newer rate.

Frequently asked questions

When does VA disability pay come out?

VA pays disability compensation in arrears, meaning each month's benefit is deposited on the first business day of the following month. For example, your benefit for June is paid at the start of July. If the first day of the month falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the deposit is made earlier, on the last business day before it. VA does not publish an official forward calendar of exact dates, so the dates on this page are derived from that standard rule — always confirm with VA or your bank.

Why is my VA payment early this month?

Your payment arrives early whenever the first day of the month lands on a weekend or a federal holiday. VA (through the U.S. Treasury) issues the deposit on the last business day before that date instead of after it, so the money never arrives late. For example, when the 1st is a Sunday, payment moves back to the previous Friday; when the 1st is New Year's Day, it moves to the last business day of December. This is why some months your VA disability payment shows up a day or several days earlier than usual.

What is the VA pay increase for 2026?

The 2026 VA disability cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) is 2.8% (matches SSA COLA), effective December 1, 2025 (first reflected in the payment issued at the start of January 2026). VA disability rates change every year on December 1, matching the Social Security Administration's annual COLA. The updated 2026 rates are published on VA.gov and are the figures used in the pay chart above.

How much is 100% VA disability in 2026?

For 2026, a 100% disability rating pays $3,938.58 per month for a veteran with no dependents, $4,158.17 with a spouse, and $4,318.99 for a veteran with a spouse and one child. These amounts are effective December 1, 2025 and come directly from the official VA compensation rate tables. Additional dependents, such as more children or a spouse receiving Aid and Attendance, add to these base amounts.

Does VA publish an official payment-date calendar?

No. VA states the general timing rule — benefits are paid on the first business day of the following month, moved earlier for weekends and federal holidays — but does not publish a forward page listing every exact deposit date. The 2025 and 2026 dates on this page are computed from that rule applied to the U.S. federal holiday calendar. Treat them as a reliable estimate and verify the exact date with VA or your bank.
